Epiroc

The professionals for mining and construction machinery

Epiroc is a comparatively young company from Sweden that was only spun off from the Atlas Copco Group at the beginning of 2018. Atlas Copco, on the other hand, has existed for well over 140 years and was founded in Stockholm in 1873. Epiroc specializes in mining and tunneling as well as demolition and recycling technology.

High-quality drilling rigs, rock drilling tools and equipment for raiseboring are on the market from Epiroc, as well as demolition tools and machines such as excavator attachments, loaders and trucks, and machines for mechanical rock excavation. The company's high-quality and sought-after products also include ventilation systems and rock support systems.

The young company Epiroc has been listed on the stock exchange since the year it was founded or since it was spun off from the Atlas Copco Group. Epiroc employs more than 13,000 people worldwide and achieves annual sales of around three billion euros. Epiroc is active worldwide. The company is headquartered in Stockholm in the Nacka district, but also has offices and networks in the United States, Canada, Australia, Japan, China, India and Germany. Epiroc Deutschland GmbH's headquarters are located in Essen, Germany. The Epiroc plant in Germany used to be a factory of the Krupp group. The world's first hydraulic hammer was developed and manufactured here in 1963. To this day, hydraulic hammers including chisels are manufactured at the Essen site in the 750 kilogram to 10 ton range. Demolition tongs, steel and scrap shears, compactors, pulverizers, multi-grabs, jaw crusher buckets and hydro-magnets are also produced at Epiroc in Essen.

The name Epiroc says it all. The word creation goes back to the ancient Greek prefix "epi" and the English word "rock" for rock. The company name can be translated as "on rock". Epiroc's CEO is the Belgian businessman Ronnie Leten. Helena Hedblom is the president of the company. Nowadays, it is the exception rather than the rule for groups of companies to spin off from corporate groups. The long-established Swedish company Atlas Copco and Epiroc managed this mammoth task relatively quickly in order to further strengthen their core competencies in mining and tunneling as well as in demolition and recycling technology. The plan more than succeeded. Already in the first year of its existence, the listed company Epiroc achieved an increase in sales of more than 20 percent.
